Q1: Vaibhav, can you give us an overview of the current state of application security? What are the most pressing challenges organizations face today?
Vaibhav Malik: The landscape of application security is constantly evolving, driven by the rapid pace of digital transformation and the increasing sophistication of cyber threats. Today, organizations face a multitude of challenges in securing their applications.
One of the most significant issues is the expanding attack surface. With the proliferation of cloud services, microservices architectures, and the Internet of Things (IoT), applications are more distributed than ever. This distribution creates more potential entry points for attackers and makes it harder for security teams to maintain visibility and control.
Another major challenge is the speed of development in today's DevOps and agile environments. Security often struggles to keep pace with rapid release cycles, leading to vulnerabilities being introduced into production systems. We're seeing a growing need for "shift-left" security practices, where security is integrated earlier in the development lifecycle.
Lastly, the sophistication of attacks continues to increase. We're seeing more advanced persistent threats (APTs), novel exploitation techniques, and attacks that combine multiple vectors. Defending against these requires a more holistic and adaptive approach to security.
